How a Low FODMAP Diet Can Help Moms with Colic

Staying clear of ’windy’ foods (see: foods that make you fart) is common for breastfeeding mothers, despite little evidence supporting therapeutic diets for infantile colic.

A new Australian study, published in Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, suggests breastfeeding mothers could help reduce colic in infants by following a low FODMAP diet.

Comparing the results of mothers sticking to a typical Australian diet to mothers on a low FODMAP one, the study’s authors reported a 32 per cent reduction in crying and fussiness associated with infantile colic.
